The Balancing Act

This exercise is inspired by the mesmerizing mosaics titled “The Circus Comes to Town” at the Queens Early Childhood Center in Richmond Hill. Artist Janet Morgan created a fun and clever visual trick in her design. When the mosaic is flipped upside‑down, an entirely new image appears. It’s a small act of magic that captures the playful, topsy‑turvy spirit of the circus and invites viewers to see the world from more than one angle.

To lean into that same sense of whimsy, The Balancing Act Artwork Out asks participants to draw daring objects, magnificent animals, and circus performers stacked atop an elephant balancing on a ball. The template is reversible and works right‑side‑up and upside‑down, so halfway through the activity, you flip the page and continue your drawing from a new perspective.
